Book Review: Wire Wrapping

Wire Wrapping by Linda Chandler and Christine Ritchey
Interweave Press
2008
128 pages

Level: Beginner

The projects in this book are elegant, timeless, and cleverly constructed. There are five basic bracelet projects with variations that will help you develop your wire wrapping skills. The first project has an amazing 15 pages of detailed instructions and photos, so if you are often frustrated by vague project instructions, this is a fantastic book for you.

The more advanced projects include a ring, wrapped stone pendant, and a pendant, earring, and bracelet set that cleverly incorporates patterned wire. The projects also add faceted stones (in simple snap settings), twisted wire, and colored niobium wire.

The projects in this book require various pliers, cutters and files as well as masking tape, mandrel or dowel rod, and a penknife.

Overall, I enjoyed the photos in the book, straightforward instructions, helpful advice, and clever designs. The required materials and equipment list is fairly short and simple, however most readers will need to order half-round wire to get started. The book suggests practicing with copper or brass wire before moving onto sterling silver and gold filled wire.
